Coach Doherty joins 1 % Club Basketball Training with a wealth of playing
and coaching experience. Phil spent the last 10 years coaching
Division 1 basketball, High School Basketball, and AAU Basketball. He
also has played at the highest level lettering at Santa Clara
University.
Coach
Doherty played his prep basketball at Sacred Heart
Cathedral in San Francisco where he was a two-time
1st Team All-WCAL player, two-time All-Metro Bay
Area selection, and two-time captain. Phil
was also part of the California team that participated
in the Boston Shootout which featured 8 States
in the US and some of his teammates included Paul
Pierce, Jelani McCoy, Tim Kennedy, and Kenyon Jones.
He later played for Coach Dick Davey at Santa Clara University for two
years where he was a member of two WCC championship teams in 1995-96
and 1996-97, one of which (95-96) advanced to the 2nd round of the NCAA
tournament. He was teammates with two-time NBA MVP Steve Nash and former
Boston Celtic guard Marlon Garnett. Coach Doherty then transferred to
UC Davis receiving his undergraduate degree in Economics and French in
1999.
Coach Doherty coached for 4 years on the Men’s Basketball Staff
at the University of San Francisco from 2002-2006. At the University
of San Francisco he coached under 2 head coaches, Jessie Evans and Phil
Matthews. He served as Assistant Coach, Director of Basketball Operations,
and Recruiting Coordinator. The 2005 team reached the NIT 2nd round.
While at USF Coach Doherty created and directed one of the best High
School Team Camps in the country, directed all basketball camps, helped
with recruiting, on-court coaching, academic support, and scouting.
In 2007 Coach Doherty assisted at his alma mater, Sacred Heart Cathedral
Prep High School in San Francisco. Coach Doherty also previously
coached at his alma mater from 1999 to 2002 before going to USF.
Coach Doherty also helped direct the Bay Area Hoosiers AAU program for
3 years, serving as the 17U coach and the 15U coach while running the
skill development part of the program for the Hoosiers. Coach Doherty
now helps the 16U team which is coached by Rob Jones, the program's co-founder.
Over the last 6 years, Coach Doherty has helped run the 1% Club "Finest" Instructionl
Showcases which was founded by Jeremy Russotti. These showcases have
taken place in multiple areas in California and Alaska and helped thousands
of High School players looking to get better and wanting to play at the
next level. Says Jeremy Russotti, "Phil has been the backbone
for my company for the past 5+ years. If you have never seen him
train, you are in for a real treat. There are very few trainers
in this world that show how passionate they are for this game on the
court. If your in Kindergarten or a professional, he will
give you everything he has to make you a better player". Recently
Phil was co-director for the prestigious, "NorCal Finest" Super
100 for the top 100 players in Northern California.
Lastly, Phil is a lead trainer for "Green Room Training Program",
which is an all-inclusive training program for professiona athletes. GRT
Program is considered one of the top Professional training programs in
the world. Having Phil creating Rocklin as his homebase is a huge
plus for the Rocklin community.
